There is no better way to understand the term ‘restoring sight’ than to put oneself in the shoes of someone who has recently been cured. The change, one might say is visible and tangible. It is a change that brings along with it hope for the future and a life of dignity. The six months’ project titled Sarvabhaumik Nainika aims at reducing avoidable blindness by delivering inclusive, accessible and affordable primary eye care services through health education, screening for eye ailments, and medical interventions in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The objective will be achieved through:
- Identification of people with eye ailments through camps and vision centres
- Referral to secondary hospital for medical interventions, including surgeries
- Raising awareness on prevention of common eye diseases
- Mainstreaming disability among community health worker
- Identification of people with eye ailments through inclusive screening camps
- Identification of people with eye ailments through newly set up inclusive vision centre in remotest village of Kuppam
- Addressing refractive errors
- Referral to secondary hospital for medical interventions, including surgeries
- Raise adequate awareness on prevention of common eye diseases
- Mainstreaming disability
