About us

WePlant has a simple solution to the complex issues of malnutrition in India and declining global biodiveristy: planting indigenous fruit trees in public places. This act will both provide the very poor with access to nutritious fruit and restore local ecosystems by undoing the damage done by human development, invasive species and cash crops. Our vision is to see public lands all over India planted with location specific fruit trees.

 We have begun to accomplish this by holding work camps in which volunteers come together and plant saplings. The only way we can solve these issues is by focusing on long term solutions which our model does in several ways. Primarily, fruit trees will be around for generations and so will provide nourishment for years to come. Additionally all of our projects are sustained by the communities they are a part of and each tree we plant is tied to a specific volunteer who has agreed to nurture it until it matures so every donated tree comes with the guarantee of making a difference.

So far we have programs in 5 states and have planted over 2,030 trees. We have high expectations for the future and plan on expanding to have a program in every state by 2015.
