Skip-A-Pizza
Skip-a-Pizza Campaign launched in June 2014 was a pre-cursor to the formation of Helping-Hands. A Group of enlightened individuals decided to launch a campaign, to provide some relief to poor labourers in the form of subsidised food.
A large number of labourers from rural areas come to City in search of work. You must have seen them at major Crossings of the Cities/Towns, waiting for some Contractor’s supervisor to pick them up for a day’s work.
These labourers get work for only 15-20 days a month, and on the lucky days when they get the work, they are totally at the mercy of the Contractor who pays them only Rs. 150-200; a complete mockery of Minimum Wages Act! It was decided that these labourers will be provided mid-day meals at a subsidised rate of Rs. 5 per meal. The idea of collecting Rs. 5 and not giving the meals for free is in line with the respect for dignity of labour.
