About us

SPHOORTI FOUNDATION is a non-profit organization registered under the A.P Registrations Act as a Charitable Trust in October 2005.  Sphoorti is based in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.  In July 2006, ‘Sphoorti’ established a Children’s Home near Cherlapally, Hyderabad.  On day-One, we had three children and two caretakers.

We currently have 200 children - 104 boys and 96 girls in the age group 5-16.  We currently house boys and girls separately in three different Homes.  There is a common kitchen and a dining area.  In addition, we sponsor school fees of 150 more children who live in the vicinity and whose parents cannot afford education for their children.  We make the fee payment directly to schools that these children attend.

We currently employ 12 people to take care of cooking, grooming and security of our premises.

The most vulnerable and marginalized in our work here in the Twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad are the Children, the small child surviving on the streets, the bigger children starting to steal in order to survive and some small child surviving into troubled teenagers leading to delinquency and an added burden to the community.  Majority of the children we have are from broken families either the young women has dissented her children or the alcoholic father disserting them.  Some due to acute po0verty then the commercial sea worker’s (CSW) children are hindrance to their trade.  So they just leave them in our home.  Occasionally some care for their children the rest do not care for their kids. These are children who have come to us because they are alone, abandoned or orphaned or have special needs that the local schools have difficulty in providing hence the basis of this proposal for a school of our own at Dundigal village.
