About us

Kalanjiyam Vision and Mission  “Kalanjiyam envisions an energized and empowered community, that can take part in its own development, is able to mobilize and organize itself and take actions to ensure quality education, improved health and overall well-being of all its members.”   Education Programs  We work with schools, both pre-primary and primary schools to ensure enrollment, decrease drop outs, supporting curriculum development, providing materials and resources and overall to bring about changes in attitudes, improve the environment and better quality of education.  Kalanjiyam is presently working with over 2000 children combined in primary, middle or high / higher secondary school from 20+ schools.  Health programs Kalanjiyam has been implementing a number of programs to promote health and well-being among the communities we serve. These include working on health of children in the schools, women and children in local communities and other specific target groups. Through our education program, we have taken up children’s health in school and community, by providing access to health care, providing nutrition supplementation in schools, providing first aid boxes for all our adopted schools, providing health education for adopting healthy behaviors and conducting yoga classes in school.Hygiene and Sanitation program Lack of hygiene and sanitation facilities in schools is a main reason for drop outs among girl children. Providing for these facilities has been an important focus of Kalanjiyam activities since 2009. Skill building / promoting livelihood Programs In 2015, Kalanjiyam launched a new program to provide training to rural women on tailoring, as means of providing skills and linking with employment opportunities to improve family income. The tailoring center (Jothi Tailoring Center) is situated in Kalpat Village, Kancheepuram district.
